The ARA's annual Spring Clean now replicated locally and nationally

Keep Britain Tidy and MVDC invites participation in Community Litter Pick

The ARA’s Spring Clean initiative started many years ago is now at last being followed locally and nationally.

Keep Britain Tidy’s (KBT) annual Great British Spring Clean campaign takes place from 13th to 29th March 2026 across the country, opening up the opportunity for volunteers in Mole Valley’s local communities to come together and clear one or more streets or public spaces of litter.

MVDC is delighted to lend its support – another milestone in its ‘Be Proud of Mole Valley’ campaign – to back the charity’s plea for residents to come forward and pledge to collect one or more bag of litter from streets, parks and local beauty spots to help protect the district’s open spaces and wildlife habitats.

Keep Britain Tidy (KBT) reports that last year:

  • 95% of litter pickers agreed that they felt they had made a difference to their local area.

  • 88% of people who took part in the Great British Spring Clean agreed they felt part of a national movement that is taking action to tackle litter.

Everyone who would like to take part in this year’s Great British Spring Clean can register their interest on MVDC’s web site to confirm a day and time to collect KBT bags, litter pickers and hi-vis jackets from the reception at MVDC’s Pippbrook office in Dorking. Once litter picks have been completed, arrangements can be made for full bags to be collected from an agreed location.

Separately to KBT’s annual initiative, residents and businesses can approach MVDC at any time of the year to request litter picking equipment and make a difference in their local community, with MVDC offering £1 for every bag collected, up to a total of £45. This financial offer will also be available to volunteers taking part in this year’s Great British Spring Clean. Visit MVDC’s website for more information on how to arrange a litter pick and important health and safety advice.

KBT’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said: “We are so grateful for the amazing support from Mole Valley District Council. The Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic way for councils to support residents to really show the irpride in where they live, and connect with like-minded people, while taking serious and immediate action to protect the environment on their doorstep."

“We are humbled to see our army of Litter Heroes volunteers carrying out these acts of kindness to make the planet a cleaner, safer place for our future generations."

Councillor Rosemary Hobbs, MVDC’s Cabinet Member for Waste, Recycling and Environmental Health, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in this year’s Great British Spring Clean and want to boost KBT’s call out to our local communities for volunteers to pick up equipment from our offices and fill as many bags with litter as they can to help rid our streets and parks of unsightly mess.”
