Advance Notice of Level Crossing restrictions and closures in August 2024

The Residents' Association has been given early notice of three sets of work on the rails and the Level Crossing that will unfortunately involve part closure or full closure of the Crossing. The Residents' Association has questioned the need for closure on busy Saturdays in the middle of holiday season in August when many will be travelling, shopping or seeing friends. The response from Network Rail was as follows:-

"Unfortunately the extended closure is vital for the works required but we will be attempting to limit the inconvenience caused to the local residents.

When we did this previously, as you have also stated below, we had a minibus shuttle service on the residents side of the crossing and the parking arrangement with the station car park which will be replicated this time. The residents will have free access to the allotted car parking spaces and any penalty fines received during our works will be refunded/cancelled. Network Rail will work with GTR/Southern/APCOA to see if there is a work around, but last time we were unable to get the ANPR switched off.

We will be installing a temporary single lane bridge to allow access during the stated times with the required traffic management implemented, we will also be working with the emergency services to ensure access is available for them."

Nearer the time it would be very useful to understand a rough number of car parking spaces required within the station car park. If residents or visitors are planning on taking advantage of the car park please advise the Residents' Association of their vehicle make and Registration Number. This information will be passed to APCOA to prevent unnecessary penalty notices being issued.
