At the Development Management Committee meeting on 2 July and after a 2 hour debate, Councillors approved the outline planning application for 270 homes on greenfield land to the south of Ermyn Way.
The majority of the Committee did not support the proposal voting 6 in favour, 5 against with 2 abstentions.
However, given the abstentions the application was approved and this brings the construction of this project closer. Although there is still a detailed design stage to be undertaken where the actual design and layout will be considered, the planned 270 homes are now very likely.
The development is expected to be phased over a number of phases and years.
This brings the proposals for Ermyn House on the adjacent land to the fore as the MVDC Local Plan has also allocated 140 dwellings on this brownfield land.
A recent letter from the developer for this site to MVDC planners suggested they may be considering applying for 360 dwellings rather than 140.
The combined impact of these two plots on local traffic, healthcare, schools, ecology and amenities all need to be assessed to weigh up the pros and cons of this scale of expansion in Ashtead.
Whether you are in favour or oppose the construction of between 410 to 630 new dwellings at Ermyn Way please spare the time make your views known.
It is helpful to us to know the views of the residents.
The Ashtead Residents Association has issued a survey available to all residents. Given the combined impact of the two development sites this is still highly relevant.
We would ask you to please complete this if you have not already done so. Use the QR Code below to access the Survey page.
The survey will be available via the links below until 30 August 2025.
The ARA will be monitoring the progress of these two applications and others in Leatherhead and will keep residents informed as news becomes available.
