Surrey Fire and Rescue Service have advised that, subject to operational requirements – particularly in this Red Alert period, a fire engine and possibly a 4x4 vehicle will be stationed on the hard standing entrance track to Woodfield and Ashtead Common opposite the level crossing between 10:00am and 11:30 a.m./12:00 noon this Saturday, 27th June 2026.
The fire engine will be available not only to look round but will include the opportunity to go inside this appliance.
If available a 4x4 vehicle will also attend but the Watch Commander from Leatherhead needs to check the access points around the common using this vehicle during the community visit.
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service will bring information leaflets about free-of-charge, Safe and Well visits to people's homes to provide personalised fire and safety advice covering the fitting of smoke alarms, Carbon Monoxide alarms and general fire safety.
The Firefighters will also bring some specific information leaflets around fire safety outdoors as this summer season hots up.
Although primarily for residents living north of the railway line who become isolated from Fire and Rescue Services if the level crossing barriers fail, all Ashtead residents are welcome to meet the dedicated professionals of the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.
The Senior Ranger of Ashtead Common and members of the team will be present to provide leaflets and information on this National Nature Reserve and Area of Special Scientific Interest in Ashtead’s back garden.
Car parking space is limited north of the level crossing but there are free 1-hour bays on Woodfield Lane and plenty of space in the railway station car park, although this has to be paid for.
Please feel free to pass on details of this special opportunity to your neighbours and contacts.
