Network Rail have apologised for the breakdown and inconvenience.
The downside barrier failed to raise after a train had passed at 16.05 yesterday. evening. A staff member from NR did attend and was able to partially operate the remaining barriers but despite this, a long backlog of cars built up in surrounding roads causing a great deal of inconvenience at this busiest of times. The barrier was repaired and the crossing operating normally by 17.49.
Ironically all four barriers were inspected earlier yesterday and were operating satisfactorily. There's a certain law on this!
Fortunately this is a rare occurence bearing in mind the frequency of barrier movements each day, but nevertheless NR still recognise it as a great inconvenience to residents and have asked us to pass on their apologies.
