Ashtead Pond

This picture was taken in June 2000 by Albert Pruden for one of his Millennium Photos of Ashtead. 22 years later the Pond is looking very different. The water level is dangerously low and the fish are struggling.

Councillor Patricia Wiltshire has taken up the case quite forcefully with Mole Valley District Council. She says she has written to all the residents involved in that discussion group and explained what is going on.

She now have money to sort out the pond and it is supposed to be happening soon. It is most unfortunate (disastrous in fact) that things have got this bad.

She has not been inactive and have been dealing with the Chief Executive, Leader of the Council, Leader of the Opposition, and many others. They all know the situation. She alerted the  Parks Department about the situation and the dead and dying fish. They replied straight away and said they would do something about it. A ‘specialist’ viewed the pond who said that there was plenty of water and that there were no fish.

She is meeting with senior officers next Wednesday (10th August).

Anyone who knows Pat Wiltshire will know that she will not let this rest until the Council are forced into taking positive action.
