Rail Replacement Works - 5th to 8th August 2022 - Crossing Closures

Railway improvements - Epsom to Ashtead Area

Network Rail have let us know of planned engineering works on the Down (Portsmouth) line between Epsom and Ashtead on the following dates:-

5th August, 6th August, 7th August & 8th August

To allow access to the line for their specialist equipment the crossing will be closed to the public as follows:-

2300 Friday 5th August to 0600 Saturday 6th August 2022

2300 Saturday 6th August to 0600 Sunday 7th August 2022

2200 Sunday 7th August to 0500 Monday 8th August 2022

NOTE: For these closures, Network Rail have specified that there will be no bicycle or pedestrian access over the crossing during these times. The Station footbridge will be available though, and for cyclists and those with mobility problems, the 'cattle creep' between Overdale and St. Stephens is open. Network Rail have added that closures will be manned throughout and once they have accessed their plant we will aim to allow residents vehicles across even during the closure window where possible.

Network Rail have confirmed the Station Car Park will be made available for residents returning home during this closed periods, or for those leaving early to go on holiday or for shift work. This has now been confirmed with GTR/Southern and details will be included within the letter that Network Rail have sent to residents. In the unlikely event of a fine being issued please contact the Network Rail helpline for this to be cancelled. Please also copy in the ARA so we are aware of the fine and can follow up if necessary. Emergency Services will have full access during these times.

Residents in the vicinity of the railway are likely to experience some noise pollution as Network Rail will be using heavy machinery and engineering trains throughout.

There will also be some follow-up work in the overnight periods of 8th to 12th August, 15th to 19th August and 19th to 23rd September. Machinery and teams will be on track using hand tools and a tamping machine. The crossing should be unaffected during these times, though perhaps some slight delays as road/rail equipment is loaded onto the line.
