When is a road closure not a road closure?
Surrey Highways have advised us that they propose resurfacing Barnett Wood Lane between West Farm Avenue and Glebe Road. The order to close the road commences 20th July 2021 and lasts for 17 months.
However - and it's a big however - having queried the 17 month alleged duration with Surrey Highways, the reply we received is as follows:-
"The actual duration of this job is likely to be 2-5 days, there is no programme date as yet and we are currently waiting for an estimate from our contractor. This job is being funded from the local Councillors budget under our Area LSR Programme so there is a possibility that if the estimate comes in at over the funds they have available it may not go ahead. If the go ahead is given we will commission these works as soon as possible."
So there we have it. Work might start, or might not. Can't tell you when it might start, if at all, and it might last 2 days or up to 5 days.
Is that enough information for you all to plan your journeys? We must ask the question, why announce this at all until they know they have the funding, accepted the tender and have a start date? About as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike!
