Walk for Health is Back!

Mole Valley District Council’s (MVDC) Walk for Health group walks have resumed across the district.

The Walk for Health scheme is a programme of fun, free and accessible weekly walks ideal for anyone looking to become more active and meet new people. It can also, if advised by a doctor, assist with recovery from the long-term effects of Covid.

In line with the latest government guidance, group walks have returned to no limit on numbers. Social distancing is maintained throughout, and those who would like to wear a face covering are welcome to do so.  

The walks last from 30 to 90 minutes, ideal for anyone who would like to start becoming more active or keep fit and healthy. There are weekly walks in Dorking, North Holmwood, Buckland, Brockham, Bookham and Leatherhead. Every walk is led by one or two friendly walk leaders.

There are also weekly walks for those with or at risk of Type 2 diabetes. Expectant and new parents also have the opportunity to exercise and make new friends at regular ‘bumps’ and ‘buggies’ walks.

Councillor David Draper, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “Our Walk for Health walks are a wonderful way to improve your health while meeting new people and enjoying Mole Valley’s beautiful countryside. The start of summer is the perfect time to give them a try. Everyone is welcoming and you go at your own pace, so the walks really are accessible to all.

“We’re always looking for new volunteer walk leaders, so please do get in touch if you’re interested. Training, support and equipment is provided, and walks can take place anywhere in Mole Valley, during the daytime or evening.”
