Ashtead & Leatherhead Local to cease publication

Sad news from Look Local Magazine Group

The Residents' Association has received the following email from Ros Thomas, Editor of Look Local Magazines which includes the Ashtead & Leatherhead Local.

"It is with great sadness that I am writing to inform you that we are no longer able to publish Look Local Magazines or The Ashtead & Leatherhead Local magazine.

The last printed magazines were June 2022 copies,  so I must apologise if you were waiting for a July publication of your contribution.  I hope you can understand this has been a very difficult decision.

As I am sure you are aware, the publishing world has been under huge pressure for a number of years with many other printed publications disappearing before us …..

In the last 6 months, our production & delivery costs have increased exponentially and it has been a real struggle to keep covering our overheads.

We are victims of both Brexit, in relation to staffing for delivery, the costs of which doubled at the end of 2021, and also the current energy crisis in relation to paper production. We have had 4 substantial paper price rises this year already with no guarantees that further will not follow. The final straw was another increase coming just days before we were due to go to print with the July magazines, which has left me with no choice but to stop the publications.

At the end of the day, we simply can’t afford to carry on….   Trust me, I’ve spent hours & hours doing the maths!

For me (& my amazing team of 2)  it is truly heartbreaking.  For over eighteen years I have enjoyed the wonderful process of bringing you a monthly magazine and my life has operated around the relentless deadlines all this time - holidays, my wedding and even family funerals have all been booked to accommodate deadlines and print runs. It is the end of an era.

It has been a privilege to work with you all and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your wonderful contributions, without which, the magazines would not have been half as interesting or popular.

If you wish to contact us for any reason, please do so via this email address many thanks.

I wish you all happiness and good health in the future & hope our paths cross again at some point.

With Warmest Regards,

Ros Redfern, Surrey Hill Publishing Ltd (2005 - 2022 )

On hearing this news, one new resident to Ashtead commented " This is sad news.  When we moved into the area we found this a really useful publication in terms of what was happening and where."
