Southern Trains Stakeholder Brief Follow the link below for the latest monthly Issue of the Southern Trains Stakeholder Brief. http://www.southernrailway.com/southern/our-stakeholders/stakeholder-news/ In 2012 Ashtead will get a new station and enlarged car park. Under the National Stations Improvement Programme which will spend £150m at 150 stations by 2014, Ashtead is one of the lucky towns to benefit from major improvements. The proposed new station will look like this:-
It is anticipated that works will commence this winter and be completed by the summer of 2012. The Residents' Association invited all local Councillors to attend preliminary consultations with Southern Railway and Network Rail. The initial meeting proved very useful on all sides as we were able to see the initial drawings of the proposed station and revised forecourt, and in turn we were able to bring our local knowledge and experience to the table to influence changes. Final plans will be completed by the Autumn and representatives from both Southern an See Plans as submitted to Mole Valley Council:- Profiles of New Station Building The new station building will be nearer to the level crossing and will include provision for a retail kiosk. Adrian, the tea and coffee vendor, will continue to operate from the Upline platform in the mornings selling tea, coffee and newspapers. The new building will also contain a toilet which the Residents' Association is pleased to see, having fought for a long time to get one installed in the present building. There will be more soft seating, an ATM and an "Info Pod" - a computer terminal that can be operated by the public. The car park will be enlarged down from where it presently stops adding a further 60 spaces. This should help prevent the present problems with capacity. In addition there will be improved cycle facilities with facilities for 100+ cycles in double-decker containers similar to those already in operation at Sutton Station. The present station building will continue to be used until the new one is completed after which it will be demolished.
