Leatherhead Theatre

The Leatherhead Theatre offers a year-round programme of drama, films, live screenings and more.

Exciting news of a brand new professional repertory theatre season at the Leatherhead Theatre this spring 2018! We are extremely excited to be bringing this tradition back to Leatherhead. This will be the first rep season housed in the old Thorndike for almost 30 years, a theatre that was literally built to house the once hugely successful Leatherhead Theatre Company. We hope to revive the theatre to its former glory.

We follow the old fashioned weekly rep model which means that each week our company of actors perform one play at night whilst rehearsing next week’s play during the day. The actors effectively have six days to rehearse each play. This is quite a feat and a very exciting process for audience members and all involved.

It's a project that will bring the theatre back to life and put it where it belongs, at the heart of the local community.

Leatherhead Theatre 1Our first season comprises 3 plays, you will find all the information here: www.leatherheadrep.com The season opens on Tuesday 17th of April 2018 and closes on the 5th of May 2018.

Rep theatre used to be an important part of many local communities. Leatherhead Theatre, formerly known as The Thorndike Theatre ran a season until around 30 years ago. And nationwide it was very much the training ground for many of our best-loved actors like Edward Fox OBE, Sir John Gielgud and Dame Judi Dench. It is making a comeback (most recently at Liverpool Everyman and Theatre Royal Windsor) and it’s wonderful that Leatherhead is jumping on this trend. We really hope that you will all be able to come along to celebrate and mark the start of this journey with us.

If the Spring season is a success there is already another 3 week season booked in for November 2018 and 2019 will see this wonderful venture expand even further. Thanks to the forward thinking of the Trustees and management of the Leatherhead Theatre, we could really be putting it back at the centre of local culture. Your support for this would be invaluable.

Every penny audiences spend at the Leatherhead Theatre; tickets to see a show or simply sharing a coffee with friends in the cafe, goes back into maintaining this unique space. Leatherhead Theatre receives no funding from the local Council or Arts Council England. We are entirely self-funded thanks to the generosity of the general public.
