Loraine Gardens Why "Loraine"? Because it's named after the builders "Loraine Estates". Now can anyone tell me why it's numbered in its strange way? Thanks to Cllr. Chris Reynolds for providing the answer to this question. |

![]() Does anyone recognise this property? A Canadian ex-Ashtead resident says this is Linden House, Ashtead in 1940 where he was billeted during the war. He tells the story, "There was another house next door and more Canadians were staying there. It was late 1940 or early 1941. A young Canadian soldier was cleaning his rifle downstairs and it misfired and went through the ceiling killing a friend of his that was sleeping upstairs on the floor. The young soldier got a 6 months sentence and when he came back his hair was white." If anyone knows where the property was - or still is - please email the webmaster. |
